What are Surname Projects? |
|
| |
Surname Projects are formed when many members with the
same or similar surname gather and decide to be tested together.
The great advantages of Surname Projects are that many questions
can be answered at the same time and grow as more cousins
become interested in the possibilities. And each member of
the Surname Projects benefit from the reduced price on our
full marker test.
The good news about Surname Projects at DNA Heritage is we
give you ultimate choice in how you want to run your Project
whilst giving you help when you start and a guiding hand as
it grows.
Discover why Project Administrators are starting with or transferring
over to DNA Heritage.

We are the only lab that tests all genetic genealogy
samples in duplicate. |
| |
|
 |
We have the highest available number of
Y-chromosome markers. |
| |
|
 |
We let you choose which markers you want for your Project. |
| |
|
 |
We won't sell low-resolution tests. |
| |
|
 |
We have the highest available number of single-copy
markers. |
| |
|
 |
We test all of our 43-marker panel for each person,
so you can upgrade |
| |
instantly - one marker at a time if desired! |
| |
|
 |
Each marker costs just $5.99 - however most opt for
the full 43 marker |
| |
test at just $189 ($4.39 per marker) because of the
extra information the additional markers often provide. |
| |
|
 |
We give you the Project Management tools you need. |
| |
|
 |
Our testing lab has both ISO17025 and AABB accreditation. |
| |
|
 |
Now even faster - testing now takes approx. 3 and a
half weeks. |
Each Surname Project can select the minimum 23 markers for
it's members. We have recommended the 23 most variable single-copy
markers but this can be changed to any markers you wish. You
can even choose the same markers used by FTDNA in their 25-marker
test (and pay far less through DNA Heritage). By far the most
common option is to go for the full 43 marker test, as it
comes with a discount for Surname Projects and often provides
additional information.
Samples may be submitted individually or together to DNA Heritage
for testing and using Oracle,
our secure online customer database, each member can check
the progress of their sample whenever they wish.
Results are now ready faster - reduced to approx. 3 and a
half weeks. Samples can now be sent to our representative
in Utah for sample check-in which are then transported to
the testing facility in Salt Lake City, Utah on a daily basis.
European customers can return samples to either the UK or
to Utah, although we recommend sending samples directly to
Utah via normal Airmail (as samples sent to the UK may take
up to 5 weeks). Results are posted online in each secure account
as soon as they are ready.
Each participant receives a Certificate and Report containing
their personal test results. We will give interpretation of
what your group results mean - which includes who is related
to who and if genealogical lines are connected. |

Who is the Surname Project Administrator? |
|
| |
Each Project has their own Administrator, usually the main
genealogist for that particular family. They are able to control
every aspect of their own Project with support and guidance
from us. They are the main contact point between DNA Heritage
and the group and as such we answer questions that the group
may have through the Administrator.
To make the job easier, Oracle has some very effective project
management tools that the Administrator can use. These pages
give an excellent overview of the project and will show the
progress of each sample, lets you hear of new enquiries to join
your project, allows you to update project and member details,
and much more...
If there is more than one person ensuring the smooth running
and success of the project (usually the two main genealogists),
a co-Administrator can also be elected, unique to Oracle. This
person has access to most of the project management tools and
can therefore collaborate with the main Administrator more effectively.
If you are running a large project, this can be a huge help. |

How do I join an existing Surname Project? |
|
| |
If you have found a particular Surname Project on using
the 'Search by Surname' facility and wish to join it, then
you can contact the Administrator via the special contact
form found on Oracle.
Alternatively, you can contact
us and we will happily pass your message on.
